(Dianna) Hunter's debut novel weaves mystery, romance, and social justice into a beautifully written page-turner. Recommend to fans of Annie Proulx.

ABOUT MY BOOKS AND MY WORK
I write about smart women and other strong, diverse characters who care about how we live together and what we owe each other.
My pronouns are she/her or they/them.
In life I'm drawn to gardens and what remains of our wild places. In both fiction and nonfiction, I'm drawn to characters who think about those who came before as well as those who will come after. Past, present, and future interweave through all my books, Perhaps I'm looking for the places they connect and where those connections can point us as we account for our present and plot our future.
I like writing that has something to say about how we live now. Amid widespread, human-caused extinction, we need stories that take other living beings into account, as well as our obligations toward the life-giving earth, air, and water. We need stories that look hard at our humanity and our fault lines. By exploring the fissures, I hope to find openings that illuminate paths toward healing and hope.
I've written three books. My novel, Clouded Waters, came out in the fall of 2023 from Holy Cow! Press. My nonfiction books Wild Mares: My Lesbian Back-to-the-Land Life and Breaking Hard Ground: Stories of the Minnesota Farm Advocates, were finalists for the Minnesota Book Award. I was a farmer and farm advocate before beginning a career in writing and college teaching.
I earned an MA in English (Creative Writing) from Iowa State University, and I have directed programs in writing and gender equity and taught writing and women's and gender studies at four universities, including the University of Wisconsin-Superior, from which I retired in 2012. I've published, read, and performed short stories, poetry, nonfiction, and creative nonfiction in many regional and national venues.
